Ben & Charlie decided to tie the knot here @fallsfestival and yours truly happened to be on hand to photograph it. I’d hung out with this awesome couple over the last few days at the Falls Music & Arts Festival near Byron Bay, so it was my pleasure to offer to capture this wonderful, almost spontaneous occasion (amazingly all organized within 15 hours – they found the perfect venue, a festival goer who happened to be a celebrant, and had their gorgeous rings made, hair done & a lovely bouquet made – all of it happened to be on site – I think that’s serendipity…). Around 90 guests including friends & festival goers crowded into the amazing La Petite Grande for a “show” that was actually a real wedding. Even Ben’s best mate flew up from Sydney to be best man! They followed this by joining in the huge festival parade and being cheered and congratulated by 1000’s of happy punters. Pretty unique, wonderful and romantic stuff – Hard to top that one…congrats guys!!

Tim & Leia chose the Shoalhaven River as the backdrop for their recent wedding. Both the ceremony and reception were held at the wonderful Driftwood Shed, situated on 5 rural acres on the banks of the beautiful Shoalhaven River. The property comprises a self-contained cabin and a rustic 80 year old shed filled with old wares, and with mountain views, parklike gardens and country charm, it was perfect for a relaxed, laid-back couple such as Tim & Leia…

In collaboration with Handmade Web & Design, I was commissioned by Grech’s Turf Supplies to capture a series of images for their new bespoke website. They wanted a fresh, natural and evocative feel – similar to the images on my own site. The brief called for images depicting the on-site turf production processes, along with images of the farm and its natural and manmade environment, and aspirational imagery of finished turf products in established gardens and also in everyday use.

We journeyed out into the country and spent a fantastic weekend with Sarah, Josh & family on their farm near Gooloogong.

I had previously had the pleasure of shooting their fantastic coastal wedding in Mollymook and, knowing I love my landscape photography I was invited to come out and stay for a weekend sometime, photograph the family being themselves, and go exploring with my camera as well.

I didn’t have to be asked twice. I love the idea of visiting new and different places, and the challenge of capturing a slice of a different way of life to what I know always intrigues me.

The color, the light, the simple shapes of silos and windmills in an otherwise sparce landscape – all these elements made for really interesting photo opportunities. Following are some results..

Hopefully I’ll be back soon to shoot the canola…:)

I think there’s something that makes country people a little different to us coastal/ city folk, in a good way. The hospitality, the generational family bonds, the connection to land…I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it just felt a bit like I was in a different country – or something like it – when I visited the Watson’s on their family farm near Gooloogong NSW recently..

I had the pleasure of shooting Josh and Sarah’s wedding in Mollymook earlier in the year, which was wonderful. At our pre-wedding meetings we got to talking about where they grew up – Josh in Cowra, and Sarah on her family’s farm. “You should come out and stay for a weekend sometime!” said Sarah.

Enough said. I love travelling, and the idea of visiting and capturing a slice of a different way of life to what I know always intrigues me.

And so it was that we journeyed out into the country and spent a fantastic weekend on the farm with Sarah, Josh and her Mum and Dad, brother, sister, in-laws and 4 champion nieces and nephews, the 4 dogs, the galah, the horses, the cow, the chooks, sheep and a lot of canola…

What got me into photography was travelling the world for 2 years when I was younger. It sparked a passion, although for a time – as it tends to – family life took precedence.
It turned out to be many a year between overseas travel adventures and by the time I was ready and able to go somewhere just for myself I chose Iceland because I knew it would be different to anything I’d seen or experienced before.
It was also the ideal location for me to get way out there with my camera, test my skills, learn some new ones, meet some new friends, and be inspired…
Even knowing this, Iceland far exceeded my expectations, and I was truly blown away at every turn by the sheer and awesome natural beauty of this small yet extraordinary island.
…now, if someone can please book me to shoot their wedding in Iceland sometime soon so I can go back..! Pete

I love getting out and photographing different subjects so when I got the chance to go out with Scott on his lobster boat I jumped at the chance. Notwithstanding a bout of unexpected sea-sickness on the way back (diesel fumes & rolling seas mixed with rotten lobster bait – not a good mix…), I had a whale of a time watching the lads go about their work, and capturing another slice of life. From the super early start out of Husky wharf and the golden morning light, to the seals who somehow raid many of the traps (which does not please the skipper at all), the Albatross and other sea-birds, the very cool crabs & other by-catch critters, of course the lobsters, and simply being out there on the rolling sea – it was definitely well worth it..
